| LATWATER Projects: |
Lattakia, the city and the seaside
villages, is watered by a main water spring. It is
"As-sin" spring, 40 k.m far to the south of Lattakia. The
lower flow of this spring is about 6m3/s . Also Tartus
is watered by the same spring.
Many projects were achieved within the last thirty years
to supply water of this spring to Lattakia , the cities
and the villages which are connected with it.
The following is a summary, in a chronological order, of
the main water projects established to exploit the water
of this source: |
| The First project: |
This project is put in
operation since 1970. It gives about 35000m3/day
of water .Jablah, Alkordaha and some other
villages around them are water-supplied by it.
This project consists of a water source and a
treatment station in addition to a main pump
station with three pumping sets which was
renewed later to push about 0.37m3/s each.
All the installations of the pump station,
referred to as PS1, are about 12m above sea
level .
A main pump line connects the pump station with
the first tank (T1) on Korfais mountain. T1 has
1000m3 capacity and is 89m above the sea level.
This main pump line is made of Ductile-Iron and
/DN.700mm/.
Another main line of Ductile-Iron connects the
first tank (T1) to Al-Kalaa tank. This later's
capacity is about 10000m3 and it is 72m above
the sea level.
A main water supplying net with diameters that
range between 60mm and 450mm was designed and
installed by "France Sousia" Company. |
| The second project: |
It is put on operation since
1980 and is giving Lattakia about 57000m3 of
drinking water per day.
This project consists of many elements:
The water source, tow pumping sets with
a treatment station.
Four pump sets (three operating sets and
one spare). Each pump set gives about
0.29m3/s and these pump sets are located at
the same pumping station of the first
project (PS1).
A pumping line that connects PS1 to tank
T2. T2 is a new tank with 2000m3 capacity
situated near the tank T1 of the first
project. This line is made of
ASBESTOS-CEMENT.
A main line from the tank T2 in Korfais
to Al-Kalaa tank in Lattakia. This line
supplies another tank in Lattakia with
50000m3 capacity at 68m above the sea level
(Al Montazah Tank). The establishment is working now to renew these
pump sets.
|
| The third project: |
It is put on operation since
2001 and this project consists of:
A primary water source with 2m3/s.
A pumping station with four pump sets
(three operating sets and one spare). Each
pump set provides about 0.5m3/s and these
pump sets are located at a new pumping
building, referred to as ps2.
A pumping line of steal, /DN.1200mm/ and
1k.m length, connects (ps2) to a newer tank
(T3) in Korfais mountain with 5000m3
cappacity at the same altitude as T1 and T2.
A main line of Ductile-Iron, /DN.1000mm/
and 40 k.m length, connects the main tank in
Lattakia with T3.
A branch of this main line with
/DN.400mm/ going to Kordaha city through two
pumping station. |
| The fourth project |
| Another main line /DN.1000mm/
of Ductile-Iron pipes connects T3 in Korfais to
Jablah city, its length is about 15k.m. Perspectives To keep our water healthy we
must change the second project lines which are
made of ASBESTOS-CEMENT. Another reason for
changing these lines is that they are frequently
broken and, passing through a rich agricultural
area, their reparation and maintenance cost is
very high. |
